Hydrogen for africa

Connecting knowledge, communication and capacity building for Green hydrogen in Africa: Meet Apodissi

A new energy technology can only go so far on its own. For it to make a real difference, people need to understand it, communities need to see its value, professionals need the skills to work with it, and organisations need the connections to take it further.

With offices in Windhoek, Namibia, Lagos, Nigeria, and Udine, Italy, Apodissi works at the intersection of technology, knowledge and people. The company supports technology and knowledge transfer between mature and emerging markets, with experience across Horizon Europe, Erasmus+ and GIZ funded projects. Much of this work is about making complex ideas easier to understand, creating spaces for people to exchange knowledge and help promising innovations find the communities and networks that can take them forward.

Within GH-SAFE, Apodissi is responsible for science communication, stakeholders and end users outreach. An aspect of their expertise that involves making complex technology and science understandable through storytelling and creative designs.

This also includes supporting partners in publishing peer reviewed open access research, making project datasets available through open science platforms and following the project’s scientific presence at national and international conferences.

The project is working towards a future where renewable hydrogen and energy storage can support communities across Africa. Reaching that future means opening the conversation to people beyond research institutions. Throughout the project, Apodissi will organise webinars that connect  researchers, renewable energy investors,  policymakers and industry professionals to the project findings and explore collaborative opportunities.

Towards the end of the project, the team will also organise a Virtual Summer School on Renewable Hydrogen and Energy Storage in Africa.

A training programme for 60 students that will create a space for young African energy professionals to learn, exchange ideas and build a stronger understanding of green  hydrogen technologies.

The programme will be delivered throughSmart Step, Apodissi’s e-learning platform which will also be freely available on the platform, allowing learners, trainers and institutions retake courses and replicate in various institutions.

Focus groups and community workshops will create opportunities for local people to discuss their energy needs, expectations and concerns. Apodissi will support these activities with communication materials designed for non specialist audiences and help showcase the GH-SAFE technology during field activities.

This work will be carried out by a team of three professionals,Margherita Trestini, General Manager at Apodissi, who will bring extensive experience coordinating Horizon Europe and Erasmus+ projects and her work across international partnerships.

Blessing Sorinola, a creative communication specialist, works across communication and storytelling for international development projects, with experience spanning vocational education and training, energy and innovative agriculture. Gabriela Moskal, a junior designer with experienced work in graphic design and visual communication.

With their efforts, the GH-SAFE project will reach its targeted audiences through knowledge sharing, science communication and capacity building.
