Developing green hydrogen technologies that can deliver reliable electricity to rural communities requires more than its production. It needs an efficient and sustainable system capable of converting hydrogen into usable power with minimal environmental impact.
CRMT is bringing decades of expertise in alternative fuel engine development to make this possible.
Founded in 1977, CRMT is an independent French engineering and testing centre headquartered near Lyon, France. The organisation specialises in alternative fuel engines and vehicles, including hydrogen, natural gas, ethanol, and biofuels. They support original equipment manufacturers and technology developers through engine testing, vehicle engineering, emissions measurement, and the integration of innovative energy systems.
Their expertise also includes pollutant emissions measurement for vehicles, engine development for alternative fuels, and vehicle engineering focused on integrating new powertrains, energy storage systems, and retrofit solutions for cleaner mobility.
In the project, the organisation serves as a subcontractor to CNRS, the project coordinator leading the design of the hydrogen internal combustion engine that will power the project’s electricity generator. The organisation is also responsible for integrating the Liquid Organic Hydrogen Carrier (LOHC) dehydrogenation reactor into the complete energy system.
This work is essential to ensuring that hydrogen produced and safely stored within the LOHC system can be efficiently converted into reliable electrical power for rural and off-grid communities.
To do this, CRMT will conduct a comprehensive engine testing to verify that the LOHC carrier does not introduce harmful pollutant emissions during operation. These assessments will provide valuable evidence that the integrated system can generate electricity while maintaining high environmental standards.
With the organisation’s advanced engineering experience in hydrogen powered engines and emissions testing, they will help the project develop an efficient and environmentally responsible hydrogen to power solution.
